The only way most people can find out if a person is telling the truth is by cross checking every thing the person says. It is usually difficult for a normal person to detect if they are being told lies, though most people feel they can. However some people have a special gift, they can automatically detect if they are being told lies.

A person telling the truth will be able to provide information in great detail as he or she is only stating the facts which are already available. The person who is telling lies will only provide a little information, since he has to use his imagination to make up the information. He is also afraid that he will contradict himself .

The body language of a person is also an indication of whether the truth is being told. Liars will not look you in the eye while speaking to you. unnecessary body movements and interruptions are another indicator of lies. Some people may be good actors, so their face may not  give any indication, but some facts are difficult to change.
