Till about twenty years ago, people were largely honest and spoke the truth. However, with increasingly materialistic and superficial lifestyles, most people you meet today are economical with the truth. They often lie to friends, family and their business associates.

While some people get away with their lies, many times the person to whom lies are told realizes that he or she is not being told the truth. It is often difficult to trust a person who you know is lying. This affects the long term relationship with the person. The persons sometimes thinks that by telling lies, they will hide the unpleasant truth, but there are people who would prefer to face the facts, instead of being ignorant.

People who lie do not realize that the truth is based on facts, when you lie, you contradict yourself in many ways, which can be easily detected if the other person is perceptive enough. No amount of sweet talk or public relations can hide the truth. So telling the truth always is the best policy!
